*Support Children with Albinism at Maramvya Primary School – A Call for Action*
In April 2025, Cadeau Joro, Special Envoy of Albinos Sans Frontières (ASF Burundi), visited Maramvya Primary School in Burundi to raise awareness about the urgent needs of children with albinism. This visit was part of ASF Burundi’s broader mission to promote the rights, health, and education of persons with albinism across the country.
Children with albinism face unique challenges—particularly related to their skin and vision. The strong sun in Burundi poses a serious risk of skin damage and cancer, while low vision impacts their ability to learn effectively in class. Many of these children lack access to basic sun protection such as sunscreen, hats, or sunglasses, and often sit too far from the blackboard due to a lack of accommodations in schools.
During the visit, Mr. Joro encouraged teachers to play a proactive role in the personal growth and academic success of these children. Simple measures such as allowing them to sit at the front of the class, using large print materials, and understanding their visual limitations can make a life-changing difference.
We are calling on individuals, organizations, and government bodies to stand with us in supporting these vulnerable children. Your help—whether through donations of sunscreen, protective clothing, prescription glasses, or educational materials—can empower them to thrive safely and confidently.
Together, we can protect their health, preserve their dignity, and promote inclusive education.
